Ann Turnbull was born on 28 October 1825 in Roxburghshire, Scotland.1
She was convicted at the Jedburgh Court, Scotland on 14 April 1848, left England on 10 November 1848 from Plymouth on the ship "Cadet" arriving Van Diemen's Land (Tasmania) on 10 July 1849 (Voyage No. 310).

I am not sure of his relationship with Ann but it appears it was not a legal marriage and the child did not, as far as I can find out, become part of the subsequent Weedon family. I believe that, as Ann was a transported convict, James was either a soldier/crew on the ship coming out to Australia or someone she met up with subsequently.
