Page:   Posting from Megan 2017-06-11 DIXON, Charles Matthew born Coventry 1835 Hi, Everyone I am searching for any information regarding my half 2nd Great Uncle Charles Matthew DIXON. Charles Matthew was baptised in St Michael's, Coventry on 06 Mar 1835 as the son of Charles Dixon b1808 in Warwickshire, and Harriet Mary nee Townsend b 1811. Charles Matthew appears in the 1841 and 1851 England Census in Coventry as aged 6 (1841) living with Harriet Mary in Little Park Street, and as aged 16 (1851) and a Warehouseman's Apprentice. Charles Matthew emigrated on the ship JAMES L BOGERT departing the East India Dock on 12 Jan 1853 and arriving in Melbourne, Victoria on 27 April 1853. There is also another entry for the ship SPEEDY arriving in Melbourne in 1854. Suffice to say, Charles Matthew was in Victoria by 1856, as he married Margaret Bergen on 07 Jan 1856 in St Francis' Church, Melbourne and they had eight children. Mary Anne bc 1858 Emma Eveline bc 1860 Margaret bc 1862 Charles Matthew bc 1864 Ellen bc 1866 Michael John bc 1869 Mary Ann bc 1872 Henry William b 4 Nov 1873 There is no further sign of Charles Matthew in Victoria until his death on 9 Oct 1898.
