HANNAH PARKINSON
Baptism: 16.11.1758 in St Ann’s, Manchester, Lancashire, England.
Death 17.08.1813 in Wilberforce, NSW aged 56 in Parramatta Lunatic Asylum of Senility and Mental Decay; late of Windsor. Unable to locate a registration.
Burial: 19.08.1813 in St John’s CofE Cemetery, Wilberforce, Hawkesbury.
Parents: William Parkinson and Mary Thorp.

William Parkinson (b) 1732.
(m) 02.02.1758 in Manchester Cathedral, Lancashire, Manchester, England.
(d)
William was a descendant of John Parkinson, born 1585.
Mary Thorp (b) 1732.
(d)
(parents) Possibly William Thorp who married Anne Hoe on 15.01.1735 in Lincoln and he may have been married previously to Elizabeth Cooke 26.02.1723 at Lincoln. Or there was a James Thorp who married Anne Cooke 07.11.1734 in Lancashire.

Probably the best known of the 1813 burials in Wilberforce was Hannah Singleton. Hannah was one of the few adult residents with no criminal record living in Wilberforce by 1802. She accompanied her husband, convict William Singleton, arriving aboard the ‘Pitt’ in 1792 at the age of around 35 years along with sons Benjamin (of later water-mill and exploration fame) and Joseph. Singleton’s 90-acre Hawkesbury grant was promised by Acting-Governor Paterson in 1795, and the family probably took up immediate residence, expanding to over 200 acres by 1806.

HANNAH SINGLETON’S FOSTER CHILD: Mary Dowling arrived aboard the ‘Pitt’ on 14.02.1792 as the foster child of Hannah Singleton. Born about 1788, she married John Lamb on 10.05.1811 in St Matthew’s CofE Church, Windsor Reg no: V18111237 3A/1811.
The 1822 Muster lists her as Mary King with Thomas King (Government Servant - T.L., who arrived 1810 ‘Indian’) at John McArthur’s in Parramatta. The 1828 Census lists Thomas and Mary King and family.
Thomas King married Mary Dolan on 27.09.1849 Reg no’s: V18491232 73B/1849 and V1849703 79/1849 District: Scots Presbyterian Church, Sydney.
*There is something about Hanna being Alias Hannah Mottershead - unsure about this.
