Text: The big breakthrough this morning came directly from Trove, and subsequently confirmed on Ancestry. This very informative newspaper story from Bendigo about Jane Anne Miller. At this point that is the last of JJM's generation where I'd had no information past 1860.
There are 2 aspects of her quoted birth date that are 'interesting', firstly it differs considerably from her age quoted as being 16/17 when she arrived in Australia in 1860. Secondly, it would mean a 4 year gap between children for Emanuel & Harriet - a gap from June 1842 when Emma B was born, and approx March 1847 when Fanny would have been conceived. Just something to ponder

Text: JOSEPH FREEMAN married ELIZABETH WENTON, Tamworth on 3rd June, 1861.
Joseph was a bachelor and occupation was a labourer and he was living at Summer Hill, Tamworth. Elizabeth was a spinster also living at Summer Hill. Bride signed with her mark. (Summer Hill was a property in the Tamworth area which later was incorporated into the town now known as Somerton)
Elizabeth was born in Clerkenwell, Middlesex on 11th August, 1834. She was baptised at Saint Andrew, Holborn, London on 28th June, 1835. Elizabeth travelled to Australia on board the ship “Beejapore” in 1857. Occupation was a laundress. Elizabeth arrived in Australia on 14th March, 1857. She had left Southampton on 2nd December, 1856. Her health was given as good and she did not have any relatives in Australia. Cost of her passage was ten pounds. Elizabeth’s parents were Stephen Wenton and Dinah but on the shipping detail her mother’s name given as Hannah. Stephen Wenton and Dinah Sharp were married on 3rd June, 1827 at Saint Giles, Camberwell, Surrey, England. It is interesting to note that Elizabeth also married on the 3rd June, the same day as her parents.
Elizabeth Freeman (nee Wenton) married a second time on 17th August, 1892 to EDWARD COMBER at the Christ Church Vicarage, Coonabarabran. Religion was Church of England. Edward Comber was a widower and occupation was a gardener. Usual residence was Box Ridge, Tenandra. Box Ridge is the main area leading to Tenandra and Tenandra is close to Gulargambone. Elizabeth was a widow and occupation was domestic duties.
Eliza/Elizabeth Comber died on 5th December, 1903 at Burwood Road, Burwood. Occupation given as a widow aged 75 years. Cause of death was diarrhoea and asthenia – wasting away. Her father’s name given as Stephen, glass stainer and mother’s name unknown. Informant was E A Horne, daughter, Albyn Street, Strathfield. Elizabeth was buried on 7th December, 1903 at Rookwood Church Of England Cemetery. Religion given as Salvation Army. She was married twice. First at age 33 to Joseph Freeman at Tamworth and secondly to Edward Comber at age 64 at Coonabarabran. Children of marriage listed as Elizabeth A 42 living and 1 male and 6 females deceased. Not sure about the children that were deceased. At the time Elizabeth died she had 2 sons deceased, Stephen John in 1897 and Joseph in 1868. No children from second marriage.
I can send you more on the children of Joseph and Elizabeth Freeman if you want it. The main line I have been researching is the family of their second child - Stephen John Freeman. They had 3 children, Elizabeth, Stephen and Joseph. Joseph died at age 3 days at Mudgee. Stephen lived in the Coonabarabran area and his descendants lived around that area.
