Vern Tilley

TWIN FALLS -- Vern Tilley, an 88-year-old Twin Falls resident and former Burley resident, died Tuesday, Aug. 16, 2005, at the Twin Falls Care Center in Twin Falls.
He was born June 6, 1917, in Burley, the son of James and Rachel Thomas Tilley. Vern worked in construction and various jobs until he retired to care for his handicapped son in 1964. He served in the U.S. Army from 1940 to 1945 where he served in the New Hebardese Islands. He married Audrey Britewell in March of 1948 and she died July 29, 1978. He then married Ilene DeBoard on Dec. 20, 1980. Vern was an avid Atlant a Braves fan. He was a member of the Twin Falls Nazarene Church. He loved to walk and recorded more than 15,000 miles over the last 25 years. Vern was a loving husband, father, grandfather, friend and a good neighbor who will be missed by all.
Survivors include his wife, Ilene of Twin Falls; stepsons, Howard (Marla) Swafford of Portland, Ore., Larry (Willie) DeBoard of Clackamas, Ore., and Roger (Linda) DeBoard; a brother, Allen Tilley; a sister, Ruth Winnett; 11 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
Vern was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, James Ray, Kendall and Mark Tilley; his first wife, Audrey; stepson, Duane Pruit; and stepdaughter, Barbara Mason.
A funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Aug. 22, 2005, at the Burley First Baptist Church, 2262 Hiland Ave., with Pastor Jerry Kester officiating. Burial will b e in the Gem Memorial Gardens in Burley with military rites by the loc al veterans. Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Payne Mortuary and from 10 to 10:45 a.m. prior to the funeral on Monday at the church.

In addition to his first wife, Audrey, he was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, James Ray, Kendall and Mark Tilley, a stepson, Duane Pruit; and a stepdaughter, Barbara Mason. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, August 22, 2005, at the Burley First Baptist Church, 2262 Hiland Avenue, with Pastor Jerry Kester, officiating. Burial will be in the Gem Memorial Gardens in Burley, with military rites by the local veterans. Friends may call at the Payne Mortuary, 221 West Main Street in Burley on Sunday from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. and at the church from 10:00 to 10:45 a.m. prior to the funeral on Monday."
