Dear Mrs Brown and Mr Spencer,
I believe we may be distantly related My Grandmothers great-great grandparents are James and Ann Tilley (nee matthews). If I am correct I can help you further. One of Their children was a gentleman named William who married Sarah Ann Harrison-one of their sons was Edward Tilley who married Ann Peake (my great great grandparents) my great grandmother was their daughter May Tilley who married George stretton-my Grandmother Amy Stretton was their daughter.Going further back James Tilley's parents were William and Elizabeth-nee bates. Williams parents were Francis and Thomasin-nee Noon.Francis parents were John Tilley-1695-1747 and Sarah nee Scampton his parents were Robert Tilley-1649-1705 and Sarah-nee Malem.
That is as far as I have got back (so far) I believe that my great great grandparents owned and ran the village store-I am investigating that and the history of the surrounding area, employment etc and hope to be able to put together some photographs that I can forward onto you.
Sadly my Gran passed away 10years ago, she would have loved to have all this knowledge and internet connections
I am visiting myself Burton Overy and surrounding areas next Monday (24th January 2011) so will also forward to you anything that I find. I now live a 40min drive away in Northamptonshire. I too have also been told that the gravestones for the above are not easy to locate but i will try. I found most of my information on ancesty.co.uk.
