Sir William Plumpton (1362-1405) was born in Plumpton, Yorkshire and died in Spofforth, Yorkshire. In February 1381, he married Alice Gisburn (1364-1424), daughter of John de Gisburn (c1336-1390) and sister to Isabella (c1362-?) of York. They had 8 children. All the Children were born in Plumpton except George who was born in Bingham, Nottinghamshire. Sir William Plumpton suffered death upon the scaffold for the part he took in the insurrection stirred up by his uncle Richard, ARchbishop of York, whose sister, Isabella Scrope, his farther had married. He is described by a contemporary historian as a "brave and daring knight".

Sir Robert Plumpton (1340-1407) was born in Plumpton, Yorkshire.
He served in several wars of his time. In 1372, he had gone on board the King's fleet, but falling suddnely and dangerously ill, and being unable to continue his sea voyage, he was compelled to go ashore at the town of Rye; whereupon, the circumstances of his case having first being returned into the Chancery under the seal of Simon Burgh, Constable of Rochester Castle, a writ was sent to the mayor and bailiffs of the town to exonerate him from blame, and instructing them to allow him, with John Heton, his esquire, and his two valets, to return home with all his equipage unmolested. He was later Constable of the Castle of Knaresborough, and Lieutenant and Master Forester of the forest of Knaresborough.
Sir Robert married Isabella Scrope (24/8/1337-18/12/1405) daughter of Henry le Scrope (29/9/1312 - ?) and Joan Agnes (1317-?), and sister to Joan Scrope (c1349-1399), Stephen (1345-25/1/1404), Henry (1347-?), John (c1348-Dec 1405), William (c1349-1399), and Richard (1351-8/6/1405) of Masham, England. They had three children: Sir William (1362-8/6/1405), Alice (c1364-?) and Joan (c1380-?).
